Greyhound To Texas – Lyrics

(Musik und Text: Philipp Kamm)

First time I put my feet on US ground it was the 4th of July, we were Virginia bound.
Headin’ to your sister’s 1987, fireworks at the lake, girl it felt like heaven.
For one more week I thought we’s doin’ fine. On holiday with you, thought we had a good time.
But you couldn’t wait no longer to tell me goodbye, stuck in Virginia left me high and dry.

Hey bus driver Make that ol’ greyhound head out west to get me out of town.
Put the pedal to the metal, come on drive real fast, seems our love wasn’t ment to last.

For another week I stayed on hold, tried to get you back but your love was cold.
Thank god for friends that I did know, little town in Texas called El Paso.
I called ‘em up, they said I sure could come, was the best to do before I’d get numb.
Said boy we will take care of you, hop on the bus is all I had to do

Hey, hey bus driver take that ol’ greyhound to El Paso, Texas, that’s where I’m bound.
Put the pedal to the metal, get me there real fast, guess our love wasn’t ment to last.

In Newport News I jumped on the bus, radio played the song wasn’t ment for us.
Michael Martin Murphy, know it to this date, A Long Line Of Love on air in every state.

It took two nights, it took two days, half way across the USA.
Richmond, Roanoke, Knoxville, Tennessee, Nashville and Memphis with no time to be.
Crossed the Mississippi, passed Little Rock, Texarkana, Texas, no time to stop.
On to Dallas with the settin’ sun, a three-hour break and back on the run.
Thru the desert in the mornin’, comin’ in sight, El Paso in the broad daylight.

Hey, thanks bus drivers for takin’ the hound to El Paso city, where I’m save and sound.
You put the pedal to the metal, got me here at last, as our love it died real fast.

Now 36 years later life went on. I’s told it’d make a damn good country song.
So I wrote it down, this page of my past, of our love that didn’t last.

No, our love, it just wouldn’t last
